Job Purpose

The project manager I is part of the program management office and will be responsible for several individual projects that are large in scope. The project manager I will be responsible to plan, budget, oversee and document all aspects of assigned projects. The project manager I will work closely with upper management to make sure that the scope and direction of each project is on schedule, as well as other departments for support.

Key Job Elements

• Manage multiple projects that are large in scope;

• Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget;

• Organize structure and manage project teams to meet the needs of the project;

• Lead the development of a detailed project plan to track progress;

• Develop and communicate project scope, goals and deliverables, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring feasibility;

• Ensure resource availability and allocation;

• Controls project costs and manage the project budget;

• Use appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule and costs;

• Measure project performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques;

• Report and escalate to management as needed;

• Perform risk management to minimize project risks;

• Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation;

• Communicate project status with Sales Lead and the end customer as defined by the contract;

• Establish and maintain relationships with third parties if required;

• Perform risk management to minimize project risks;

• Accept special assignments as needed;

• Travel as required to perform duties (20-30%).

Education / Training


• Bachelors degree with emphasis in Business or Program Management or equivalent;

• Experience using in MS-Project, Primavera or other project scheduling tool;

• Minimum 10 years experience on capital intensive, highly engineering, long life cycle product line.


• Masters;

• Exposure to ERP systems;

• PMP certified highly preferred.

Qualifications and Experience

• Understand locomotive product;

• Experience in successfully managing people, projects and/or programs;

• Ability to influence and lead others;

• Excellent level of analytical ability to assess, identify and facilitate appropriate alternative courses of action;

• Ability to influence and lead others; both up and down;

• Attention to detail, ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks with strict deadlines.
