Job Purpose

The Manufacturing Engineer main focus will be the optimization of the test process by continuously improving the testing sequence and the re-design of electrical and mechanical applications for new locomotive orders by following closely the locomotives in test, mainly the lead units of each order and working closely with design engineering. The Manufacturing Test Engineer will also create the text routings and visual routings and solve engineering issues encounter in test by supporting the trouble shooting of mechanical and electrical issues, working closely with Test Engineering and Design Engineering, and writing MCR’s (Manufacturing Change Request) when applicable, evaluate tooling needs, assist the evaluating man power requirements.

Key Job Elements

Lead the optimization of the test process and design for the orders in the line, tooling needs, validation of the process sequence and man power requirements.

Ensure that safety, efficiency, productivity and quality are the prime focus.

Identify opportunities for process improvement through the collection and analysis of performance data (Kronos) as well as feedback from all the levels within the organization.

Create text routings and visual routings and maintain them. Process EDL’s and MCR’s.

Review and validate routings with test department before test start and during testing.

Troubleshoot any design or testing issue encounter in the during test cycle.

Write the MCR’s to implement the solutions of engineering and testing issues.

Work closely with testers and design engineering to resolve issues and implement manufacturing and design and test improvements for current and future orders.

Contribute with ideas for continuous improvement and work as part of a team to develop the projects.

Education / Training

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Electro-Mechanical)

Lean Manufacturing experience

Test Experience

Qualifications and Experience

Strong production process and design trouble shooting skills.

Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement experience.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Experience with various software programs including. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, MS Project, team Center, UG, SAP.

Excellent organization, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills.

5+ years previous experience in heavy manufacturing.

Strong interpersonal skills to interact with diverse workforce.

High dependability with a strong work ethic and commitment to deadlines.
